The Love Story Of Costa Rica, Uplifting Engagement Session

What makes this engagement session in Costa Rica unique?

When Vivian and Frank asked me to document their engagement session in Costa Rica, I couldn’t have been more thrilled. Not only are they an extraordinary couple, but they are also dear friends. Because of this connection, I knew their session would be extra special. We chose one of the historic neighborhoods of San José for the session, a place full of charm, culture, and memories—making it the perfect setting for capturing their love story.

A Couple with a Beautiful Connection

Vivian, with her infectious laughter and expressive personality, is someone who lights up any room. Her roots trace back to the Caribbean of Costa Rica, and her vibrant energy reflects the warmth of the coast. Meanwhile, Frank is the calm to her storm—a man with the biggest heart I’ve ever known. Growing up in the heart of Alajuela, a region known for its authenticity and kind-hearted people, Frank carries a grounded energy that perfectly complements Vivian’s spark.
Their connection is the kind that draws you in. In fact, Vivian and I became close friends while working together at the airport in Costa Rica, sharing adventures, beach days, and countless memories. Now that Frank is part of our circle, our bond has only grown stronger. Together, they make a perfect team, balancing one another in the most beautiful way.

Capturing Love in San José

For their engagement session, we explored the cobblestone streets and colorful colonial buildings of San José. Since the old neighborhood offers so much charm, it was a natural choice. The blend of history and modernity represents so much of Costa Rica’s culture, which is why it worked so well for this session. From vibrant murals to serene parks, every location we visited added a touch of magic to their photographs.
As we walked through the streets, Vivian’s joy was contagious, and Frank’s quiet presence grounded the energy of the session. While they laughed, danced, and shared stories about their journey together, I couldn’t help but feel honored to capture such raw and authentic moments.

Why Choose Costa Rica for Your Engagement Session?

If you’re wondering why Costa Rica is such a fantastic choice for your engagement session, let me tell you—it’s all about variety and beauty. Whether you dream of a beachside shoot on the Pacific coast, a romantic session in the lush rainforests, or an urban-inspired vibe like Vivian and Frank’s in San José, this country has it all.
Not only do couples love the diversity of locations, but they also adore the vibrant colors and natural beauty that blend seamlessly with Costa Rica’s rich culture. In other words, an engagement session in Costa Rica is more than a photoshoot—it’s an unforgettable experience that you’ll treasure forever.

Making Memories with Vivian and Frank

Now living in Fort Lauderdale, Vivian and Frank have carried their Costa Rican roots with them. Although they’ve moved away, their connection to their homeland remains strong. Whenever we catch up, it’s over a good IPA beer from Florida, reminiscing about the past and looking forward to the future.
Because of our deep friendship, documenting their engagement felt incredibly meaningful. Not only did I get to create beautiful images, but I also got to tell the story of two people I truly admire.

Choosing what to wear for your engagement session is all about feeling comfortable and confident. A few tips:
Stick to neutral tones or soft colors: These look timeless and complement Costa Rica’s natural backdrops.

2. What are the best times of day for engagement photos in Costa Rica

The time of day can dramatically impact your photos. Here’s why:
Early Morning: If you love soft, dreamy light and quiet surroundings, morning sessions are perfect. Plus, you’ll avoid the midday heat.
Golden Hour: This is the hour just before sunset, and it’s a photographer’s favorite. The warm, golden light is flattering and adds a romantic glow to your photos.

Beaches: Perfect for couples who love the ocean. Think sunset photos, soft sand, and waves in the background.

Every couple has a story, and engagement photos should reflect yours. During your session, we’ll focus on:
• Capturing candid moments that feel natural, like laughing together or holding hands.
• Choosing locations or props that have personal meaning, like where you had your first date or a shared love for coffee.
• Highlighting your personalities—whether you’re adventurous, laid-back, or a mix of both.
