You’re coming to Costa Rica to spend time together. Maybe it’s a beach vacation, an adventure through the rainforest, a few days at a resort, or a trip you’ve been planning for years.

You’ll probably take hundreds of photographs along the way. But there will still be moments you can’t easily photograph yourself: the way your children play, the way your family moves through a new place, and the feeling of all of you being there together.

that’s what I’m there to preserve.

I’m Christopher Alga, a Costa Rica family photographer creating natural, documentary family photographs for families vacationing throughout Costa Rica.

Rather than turning your vacation into a traditional photoshoot, I make space for your family to explore, play, laugh, wander and simply be together. I’ll guide you when it helps, but much of the time I’ll be watching for the moments that happen naturally.

The goal isn’t to make your vacation look perfect. It’s to remember what it felt like to be there together.

FAMILY PHOTOS THAT FEEL LIKE YOUR VACATION

A family photography session doesn’t have to mean standing in a line and smiling at the camera.

Your children can run into the ocean, climb over rocks, explore a trail or take a break when they need one. You can focus on them instead of wondering whether everyone is looking in the right direction.

Some photographs will be beautifully composed portraits.

Others might happen while your children are running toward the water, your partner is making them laugh, or everyone is walking barefoot along the beach.

Those moments aren’t interruptions to the session.

They’re the reason we’re photographing your family in the first place.

The best family photographs often happen when nobody is thinking about the photographs.

That’s why I don’t build sessions around a long list of poses.

Instead, we choose a place that gives your family something to do.

We might spend time at the beach, explore the coastline, walk through the rainforest, visit a waterfall, or simply use the surroundings of your hotel, resort or vacation home.

The location becomes part of the story.

And your children don’t have to perform for the camera.

If your children need time to warm up, we take it.

If they want to play, we let them play.

If they get tired, we slow down.

If something unexpected happens, we photograph that too.

WHY MORE TIME CAN MAKE BETTER FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHS

For families with young children, I generally recommend giving the session at least two hours.

Not because you need two hours of photographs.

Because children don’t always arrive ready to cooperate with a stranger holding a camera.

They may need time to get comfortable.

They may want to explore.

They may become fascinated by something completely unrelated to the photograph you had in mind.

That’s okay.

The extra time gives us room for those things to happen without turning the session into a race.

My Adventure Family Experience gives your family 3+ hours and the freedom to move between locations. The additional time isn’t about taking more and more photographs.

It’s about having enough time to stop thinking about the camera.

Costa Rica gives us an unusual range of environments for family photography.

You don’t have to travel somewhere remote to make beautiful photographs. Sometimes the best location is the beach outside your hotel. Other times, the landscape itself can become part of a small family adventure.

Beaches and the Pacific Coast

The beaches of Guanacaste are ideal when your family wants the ocean to be part of the experience.

We can photograph your children playing in the water, walking along the sand, exploring rocks or simply spending time together as the light changes.

Playa Conchal, for example, offers a very different experience from a simple flat beach, with its rocky coastline and distinctive surroundings.

Yes.

Your hotel, resort or vacation home can be a wonderful setting for family photography.

In many cases, staying close to where you’re already spending your vacation means the session feels more naturally connected to your trip.

If you’d rather explore somewhere else, I’ll help you choose a location that makes sense for your family and itinerary.

HOW MANY PHOTOS WILL WE RECEIVE?

The Classic Family Experience includes 50–75 edited high-resolution photographs, while the Adventure Family Experience includes 80–120.

The difference isn’t only the number of hours.

The longer experience gives us more locations, more situations and more opportunities for the story to unfold naturally.

IS THERE AN EXTRA TRAVEL FEE?

There is no additional travel fee or location-planning fee within Costa Rica.

Your session can take place at your resort, vacation home or another location in Costa Rica that makes sense for your family.
