Costa Rica Proposal Photographer

Let’s plan a
surprise they’ll
never forget.

Planning a surprise proposal in Costa Rica? I’ll help you find the place, keep the secret and photograph that first, unguarded reaction. So you can focus on the person you’re asking.

Surprise proposal at Nayara Springs in La Fortuna, Costa Rica

A little planning. A real surprise.

Your partner feels the surprise.
You feel ready.

You don’t need to arrive with a finished plan. Tell me where you’re staying, when you’re travelling and what your partner would enjoy. A sunset walk, a rainforest stop, a quiet garden at your hotel. We start there.

I’m Christopher Alga, the photographer behind Crissorama. I help you choose a realistic place and time, agree on a simple signal, and work out how I can photograph the moment discreetly.

How we plan it

A calm plan.
Room for the unexpected.

01 / Before you arrive

We find your place.

We look at your travel plans, access, light and how private you want the moment to be. I explain what’s realistic and help you prepare a backup for weather or crowds.

02 / When it happens

You stay with them.

We agree on the meeting point, where you’ll stand and a simple signal. I can photograph discreetly from a distance, or we can plan the surprise inside a relaxed vacation photo session.

03 / After the yes

Let it sink in.

There’s space to laugh, hug and take it all in. Then we continue with natural portraits, a walk and photographs of the two of you enjoying what just happened.

Real proposals & engagements

The moment has its own rhythm.

A few stories from the rainforest and the Pacific coast. No two unfold in quite the same way.

Where to propose in Costa Rica

Start with where
you’re staying.

I photograph proposals across Costa Rica, including Nosara, Tamarindo, La Fortuna, Monteverde, Papagayo, Conchal, Manuel Antonio and Santa Teresa. These are starting points, not a fixed list of spots.

Nosara

Pacific beach walks, Guiones and Pelada. We plan around the light, tides and how much privacy you want.

Explore Nosara →

Tamarindo & Langosta

Sunset on the coast, a beach walk or a quiet hotel garden. A thoughtful meeting point helps the surprise fit naturally into your holiday.

Explore Tamarindo →

La Fortuna & Arenal

Waterfalls, rainforest trails and volcano views. We consider access, walking distances and the right place for me to wait.

See a waterfall proposal →

Monteverde

Cloud forest, mist and mountain views. We build the plan around trail access, changing weather and a pace that feels comfortable.

Explore cloud forest galleries →

Papagayo & Conchal

Resort gardens, sheltered coastline and a proposal close to where you’re staying. We coordinate access with your hotel when needed.

See an El Mangroove proposal →

Manuel Antonio, Dominical & Uvita

Rainforest beside the Pacific, coastal viewpoints and waterfall experiences. Access and travel time matter as much as the scenery.

Staying in Santa Teresa, the Central Valley or somewhere else? Send me your location. We’ll work out what makes sense for your trip. The regional pages above include galleries and local context; we’ll choose your exact proposal spot together.

Kim and Jack’s proposal at La Diosa Waterfall, photographed on 35mm film

Proposal photography on 35mm film

A real surprise.
Remembered on film.

Jack and Kim love film photography. When Jack planned his proposal at La Diosa Waterfall near Nauyaca, he asked me to photograph the whole experience on 35mm film.

The anticipation, the question, the reaction and the quiet moments afterwards, all photographed on film. Its grain, colour and texture became part of how they would remember that day.

I offer analog film photography for proposals and engagement sessions in Costa Rica. We can discuss adding 35mm photographs or planning a session entirely on film, and agree on the scope and price before you book.

The details that help

Beautiful is good.
Possible is better.

  • Privacy: a public beach or waterfall cannot be guaranteed empty. We plan the timing and position, or consider a private hotel or villa.
  • Weather: we agree on a backup, so a shower doesn’t leave you figuring things out alone.
  • Access: park, hotel or private-property permission comes first. Any entry or permit fees are discussed in advance.
  • Comfort: wear something that feels like you and shoes that work for the route. Keep the ring secure during travel and walking.

A few practical questions

You don’t need
everything figured out.

Will my partner notice you?

We choose the approach together. I can wait discreetly at an agreed spot, or you can book a vacation photo session and propose during it. The plan depends on the place and what will feel natural to your partner.

I don’t know the exact location. Can you help?

Yes. Your dates, where you’re staying and a little about your partner are enough to begin. I’ll help narrow the options around light, access, travel time and privacy.

What if it rains or the location is busy?

We discuss an alternative before the session. That might mean adjusting the time, choosing a nearby spot or working with your hotel. The options depend on your travel schedule and the location.

Can we take engagement photographs afterwards?

Yes. Both experiences leave room for portraits after the proposal. You can relax, celebrate and spend time together while I give gentle guidance when it helps.

Can you photograph a proposal anywhere in Costa Rica?

I travel throughout Costa Rica. Send me your accommodation and proposed date so I can check availability and help plan a practical route. Travel is included in the published session prices.

Do you offer film photography too?

Yes. I offer 35mm film alongside digital photography or for a session photographed entirely on film. Jack requested full 35mm coverage for his proposal to Kim at La Diosa Waterfall. We’ll discuss the approach, coverage and any additional cost before you book.

Keep the surprise. Share the plan.

you’re imagining.
